Compared to last year's first half revenue of MOP26.27bn, this year's revenue was substantially higher. Nevertheless, Macau's temporary suspension of casinos in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions affected the results for 2022.
The government's "zero-Covid" policy was loosened in response to widespread demonstrations against its harshness and duration.
There is no longer a quota on the number of flights into China, and quarantine is not required of foreign visitors.
Monthly revenue decline in June
With 513.9% more revenue than in the same month a year ago, June's total of MOP15.21bn was down 2.3% from May's MOP15.57bn.
After months of anticipation, Macau finally announced in June that additional concessions will be available to casino companies in the area.
For the new discounts, seven people put their names forward. Genting Malaysia was one of these, along with Galaxy Entertainment Group, Las Vegas Sands, MGM Resorts International, Melco Resorts, SJM Resorts, and Wynn Resorts.
As a result, Genting was left out of the six operators currently operating in Macau.
Starting on January 1, 2032, the new concessions will run until December 31, 2032.
